Abdominal Ultrasound
Preparation: Nothing to eat or drink from midnight the day before your test.
Procedure: An abdominal ultrasound may be performed in order to assist
your physician in the staging of your cancer. An abdominal ultrasound
is a painless procedure which uses sound waves to visualize the internal
organs in your abdomen. There are no side effects and you will not feel
any different during or after your examination. The ultrasound technologist
will spread a gel on your abdomen which aids in the transmission of
sound waves. A transducer is lightly pressed against your skin and your
pictures are obtained. Your organs are also measured at this time. This
examination takes approximately 1 hour. When the test is complete, a
Radiologist will read your scan and send a report to your physician.
This takes approximately 7-10 days.
